About us
BBS Wirtschaft 1 is a VET college which offers a wide range of vocational education and higher commercial courses. At present the college has about 2,100 students and 90 teachers in total. Students at our college are not only supposed to acquire a broad knowledge in Business Studies Economics and Computer Information Systems, but also to form their own personality by joined-up thinking, value oriented behavior and responsible-minded participation in public life. Besides providing a learning environment that enables our students to develop a sound and solid knowledge of economy we encourage them to take on responsibility for themselves and society. It is our mission to promote and enhance the development of an entrepreneurial mind set, foreign language competences and intercultural competences, e.g. via special projects like our cooperation with the Sino-German College in Tianjin/China and organizations in the UK in our project BRIDGES.
About 1,500 students are traditional apprentices employed by our dual partners, companies based in the Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region (see https://www.m-r-n.com/en/home.html). Many of these companies are export-oriented, some of them even global players, like e.g. the chemical company BASF in Ludwigshafen. Besides the practical work in the companies, which provides vital experiences for the apprentices’ further success on the labor market, the apprentices attend courses at our college in the fields of Business Administration and Computer Information Systems. Starting in December 2015 we are offering our industrial managment assistant apprentices the additional qualification “European management assistant”, including international business processes, such as global marketing and foreign trade, foreign language courses, ECDL and internships abroad.
With approximately 300 students our A-level education is also a very important part of the college. Subjects during senior classes focus on economic sciences, especially the advanced courses in Business Administration (bilingual program), Economics and Computer Information Systems
Since August 2013 BBS Wirtschaft 1 is accredited to grant the European Business Baccalaureate Diploma (EBBD) to graduates of our bilingual A-levels program. The main objective of EBBD is to enable students to study, work and live in Europe and other foreign countries.
EBBD-graduates have to meet certain requirements: Besides fulfilling the EBBD curriculum and achieving sound foreign language competences (English B2 and Spanish or French B1) this particularly means learning via simulations and projects, acquiring intercultural competences and working abroad for at least 4 weeks (for further information see: http://www.eurobacdiploma.eu/en/).
Study trips to corporations such as BASF, Audi and Daimler and excursions to the European Parliament in Strasbourg or to the European Central Bank in Frankfurt complement lessons and provide useful insight into practice.
Since recently our commercial high school students have the opportunity to attend lectures of Applied Computer Information Systems at the University of Mannheim and International Trade, Marketing, Outbound Logistics etc. at the University of Applied Sciences Ludwigshafen and achieve ECTS points while still at school.
